SpellBroken Frequently Asked Questions

This document contains answers to frequently asked questions regarding SpellBroken game play.

Abilities
Why don’t I see all item abilities in the Action Picker when I tap on a tile?

Abilities are automatically excluded if any of the following are true: (1) You don’t have enough power to use the ability or (2) one or more of the conditions for using the ability will fail. Check (2) is not done for conditions that required a target; it is only done for “source” conditions. For example, if a condition states the item must be on tile with a particular power source, it will be evaluated. If a condition checks the power source of a target tile, the condition will not be checked.

How do I see what abilities I’ve used on an item in the current turn?

SpellBroken does not yet have an indicator to show what abilities have ben used.

Item Pool and Placement
I know I had an item in my item pool. It disappeared. Where is it?

Likely one of two things happened: (1) if this occurred during your opponents turn, your opponent used an ability that removed an item from your item pool or (2) on your turn, you drew one or more items and exceeded the item pool max size and the item was picked randommly to be discarded.

Why are some item abilities not available after I place it on the board?

When an item returns to the item pool from the board, it does not reset. If an item has used an ability then returns to the item pool, it will not have the ability available if its placed back on the board on the same turn it is played. For example, if you use Explore to move a Dwarfling to a Void tile, energize it, then play the Dwarfling back to the board, it will not have the Explore ability available.

Why can I sometimes place an item back on the board after it its return to the item pool and other times I can’t?

Most items may only be attempted to be placed once per turn. If an item is on the board at the start of your turn and is return to the item pool during the same turn you may place it again on the board. If you placed the item on the board on the same turn, it is returned to the item pool, you may not place it again unless it’s placement ability states it may be attempted multiple times per turn.

Land
After I play a land, why is only the target tile promoted to a new land type when other land is eligible?

This behavior is an strategy element in SpellBroken. Being smart about how you play tiles will allow you to benefit from promoted land types before they are be promoted by an enchantment. Also, items may interer with a player’s enchantments. For example, a Spell might prevent a player’s land enchantments from executing. In this case, their only option to have land promoted is via the initial placement.
